Ego Break 9/26: A Unique Dreaming Retreat in OBX, Avon, North Carolina

The mission of Ego Break Retreats is to facilitate unique, all-inclusive, transformational retreats that show rather than tell our guests how to thrive. Our vision is to creatively expand consciousness.

Everything Is OK on an Ego Break!

September 29 – October 3, 2026: Ego Break Dreaming Retreat unfolds on Hatteras Island, in the quiet town of Avon. Here, nearly eight acres of private land offer the kind of solitude where words come easily and distractions fall away. A boardwalk stretches for 1,800 feet through a bird and wildlife refuge, carrying you to a sound-front deck where the water shimmers and time slows down. This retreat is a nature lover’s paradise and a writer’s sanctuary—where the shoreline becomes your backdrop, the wind your rhythm, and the wide sky your invitation to create.

During your stay, you’ll have private access to the sound-side beach, a place to walk, reflect, and observe the abundant wildlife that thrives along the water’s edge. Whether you’re writing, reading, or simply breathing it all in, this setting calls you deeper into presence and expression.

Retreat Dates:
Check-in: September 29, 2026, between 5:00 and 9:00 p.m.
Check-out: October 3, 2026, by 11:00 a.m.

Ego Break Experiences

Dream Scenes
The dream interpretation workshops give each guest the chance to explore their dreams with the support of the entire group. You’ll share a dream, and together we’ll work through its images, themes, and emotional signatures. Everyone participates in helping the dreamer see connections they might have missed. These one-hour sessions offer clear, grounded guidance and collaborative insight, helping you understand what your dreams are pointing toward and how they reflect the deeper workings of your inner life.

Our Dreaming Life
This two-part dream exploration workshop gives you a direct, practical approach to working with your dreams. Together, we’ll look at how dreams communicate, why certain images return, and what your own dream patterns are pointing toward. You’ll learn techniques for engaging your dreams with intention, asking for clarity, and applying what you receive to your waking life. The goal is simple: to give you a clear, usable relationship with your dreaming mind so it becomes an active ally, not a mystery you keep trying to decode.

Group Dreaming
This group dreaming workshop gives you a rare chance to explore what happens when people dream with shared intention. You’ll learn the principles and practices behind shared dreaming and how groups can influence the dream experience. Then, during one of our dream-filled nights, we’ll put that knowledge into practice and experiment together, paying close attention to any overlaps or connections that emerge. A group Reiki meditation supports the process and helps strengthen the sense of connection among participants. Join us if you’re curious about how far dreaming can reach when it’s not done alone.

Murder Mystery Dinner Party
Just because they are fun, we’ll continue in the Ego Break Retreats tradition and enjoy a Murder Mystery Dinner Party! Before the retreat, you’ll receive a secret role to prepare, complete with backstory and quirks. On the night of the dinner, the mystery unfolds as each participant inhabits their role until the case is solved. Along the way, you’ll gain playful insight into motivation, dialogue, and character dynamics—all while enjoying an unforgettable evening of laughter and suspense. Prizes will be awarded for Best Costume, Best Detective, and Best Acting.

Sound Bath Meditation
Release tension and melt into a state of complete relaxation as the soothing sound waves of crystal singing bowls, a gong, and other sound bath instruments wash over you. This meditative experience will rejuvenate your mind and body, preparing you for a night of restful dreaming. Join us for a tranquil journey through sound.

1-Hour Private Reiki & BioMat Session (Optional – $100)
Reiki helps clear energetic blockages that often show up as limiting beliefs, fears, or creative resistance. Combined with the soothing heat of the BioMat, this private session offers deep relaxation while addressing patterns such as imposter syndrome, fear of success, procrastination, or blocks around creativity. You may also choose to focus your session on support for a specific personal or writing goal, leaving with renewed clarity and alignment. More about Reiki here. More about the BioMat here.

My Intent Craft
Choose a word that inspires you, then create a keychain, necklace, or bracelet to carry as a tangible reminder of your focus and intention. This simple yet powerful practice transforms a single word into a daily anchor for your creativity and growth.

Free Time
There will be plenty of free time in the afternoons to journal, write, read, and/or explore!

What Guests Say:

“Karrie put on a first-class event and did everything possible to make things run smoothly. She surveyed the group ahead of time about our preferences, held a Zoom meeting for us to get acquainted, and now has a private social media site so we can share photos and communicate with one another. During the retreat, Karrie created a congenial environment. I felt an immediate connection to the other attendees who came from different walks in life and all over the country. There was a great balance among educational workshops and relaxing, fun activities. I highly recommend this retreat for writers. Karrie, Anna, and Chef Jake exceeded my expectations in how well cared for I felt and how much I learned. Wanted another week and hated to leave.” –Marilyn B
