The Braided Essay: Weaving Memory, Meaning, and Transformation
Some experiences cannot be told in a straight line. A memory awakens another memory. A personal story brushes against history, family lore, culture, research, or the natural world. Meaning emerges through the connections. In this six-session workshop, writers will explore the braided essay, a creative nonfiction form that weaves multiple narrative strands into one resonant whole. We will study compelling examples, uncover the hidden threads within our own lives, and experiment with structure, repetition, imagery, reflection, and silence. Through guided exercises, discussion, workshop, and revision, participants will learn how to choose strands that deepen one another, move between them without losing the reader, and create an ending that transforms what came before. Each writer will develop a complete braided essay shaped by discovery and change. Writers at all levels are welcome. Come with an idea, a question, or a memory that refuses to leave you alone.

The Invisible Character: The Forces That Shape a Story
Some of the most powerful characters in a story never speak. Grief, fear, faith, war, money, family history, place, and even a long-held secret can influence every choice a character makes. In this 2½-hour workshop, we’ll explore how unseen forces can function like characters by creating pressure, shaping relationships, and driving conflict. Through discussion, and guided writing exercises, participants will learn how to give an invisible presence weight, personality, and consequence without overexplaining it. Writers will leave with practical techniques for deepening atmosphere, strengthening theme, and revealing the forces quietly controlling their characters’ lives. Open to writers of all genres and experience levels.
This class is one session on Zoom or in-person at The Muse.

Story as Mirror: Writing Characters Who Reflect, Challenge, and Transform
“Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.” Carl Jung The people who affect us most often reveal parts of ourselves we have not yet recognized. The same is true in stories. Supporting characters, antagonists, and relationships can reflect a protagonist’s hidden fears, desires, contradictions, and unacknowledged truths. In this 2½-hour workshop, we’ll explore how to use characters as mirrors that deepen conflict and drive transformation. Through discussion, and guided writing exercises, participants will examine what each character reflects back to the protagonist and how judgment, attraction, resentment, and admiration can point toward the story’s deeper emotional meaning. Writers will also consider what their own characters and recurring themes may be revealing to them. Participants will leave with practical tools for creating more purposeful relationships, complex character dynamics, and arcs in which meaningful change begins with seeing more clearly. Open to writers of all genres and experience levels.

The Quantum Writer: Writing Beyond Logic, Into Possibility: A Workshop
In this generative and mind-expanding workshop, we’ll explore how quantum concepts like the observer effect, entanglement, superposition, and quantum tunneling can reshape how we write characters, conflict, and transformation. We’ll connect belief to perception, explore how generational trauma ripples through narrative, uncover the multiple masks a character wears at once, and discover how true breakthroughs happen through surrender and curiosity. Whether you’re stuck, burned out, or simply ready to write from a deeper layer, this class will invite you to loosen your grip and let something unexpected emerge. This class is for writers of all genres and no science knowledge required—just a willingness to let go of certainty and step into the creative unknown.
This workshop is three sessions on Zoom.
